What are the rulings for missing and neglecting Mandatory prayers.

Delaying praying and neglecting is the same. It is a big sin, and the person must repent and redo his neglected prayers. The prophet said:

Whoever misses one prayer intentionally, he has committed a great sin. Let him seek repentance and righteous deeds as possible, and righteous deeds, even if he makes them up, it is not just the judiciary that removes the sin of what he did, according to the consensus of Muslims.

Question: What if he did not perform his prayers for the past 10 years of his life?

Reply: “Good question, but the reply is he must repay 10 years of neglection of prayers. Pray non-obligatory (sunnat) prayers, “Taubah” Repent every day and istiqfar 100 times every night”.

Delaying performing prayers is often a question for some people who have various matters that need to be done first.

The question is whether a person is considered a sinner if he misses prayers?

Before answering this question, we need to know the advantages for those who always pray at the beginning of the time.

In a hadith: The Prophet was once asked: What are the more important practices? He said: Prayer at the beginning of its time. – [HR Abu Daud 362].

Based on the hadith above, prayer at the beginning of time is a practice that is greatly loved by Allah and His Messenger. This is to enable a person to gain a lot of benefits when praying at the beginning of the prayer time while avoiding the occurrence of negligence until the prayer time expires.

Engrossed in watching television that sometimes the prayer time is over, and prayer deliberately neglected

Scholars discuss the meaning of a person who misses prayers to two groups: Below are the conditions.

Types of Muslims who missed on prayers

First group: Missing prayers until the time expires.

Second group: Missed prayers until it is almost run out of the prayer time. This is for person who is ill or in a coma.

For the first group, for example, they deliberately do not perform the Subuh (dawn prayer) on time until the time expires. The law for those who deliberately miss prayers and letting time runs out is a great sin.

Allah’s words in Surah Al-Ma’un verses 4 and 5: (If such people are counted from the number of those who deny the religion), then great woe to those who pray. (That is) those who are heedless of their prayer.

It is understood in this verse that those who deliberately miss the prayer until the time expires then they are among the people who are harmed by Allah.

Imam al-Zahabi in his book (Al-Kabair 1/17) said that: Prayer is likened to a servant’s relationship with his Lord, in which the person who breaks the relationship is considered a great sinner, let alone if he disobeys his duty or belittles the person who binds the relationship so that it can be considered an infidel, if there is no need to repent and return to His God

In a hadith, it is narrated about those who belong to the group mentioned by Allah in Surah Al-Ma’un.

Sa’ad bin Abi Waqqas RA said: I once asked the Messenger of Allah about people who neglect their prayers, then he replied: That is to end the time of prayer (from the original time until the time of another prayer).

those who perform prayers are still considered as a person who prays. But because they have wasted and ended the prayer time, then they are threatened with the hell of Wail, which is a very painful torment in it. – [HR Bahaiqi 2949].

Strive in obeying God’s command and do not ever abuse the practice of prayer and be patient in doing so.

For the second group: those who miss the prayers until almost the end of time due to illness allowed by Islamic law, then the religious scholars say it is not sinful.

Types of situations in which a person is not guilty of skipping prayers

  1. Sleep, if sleeping before prayer time
  2. Forgetfulness
  3. Congregation prayers
  4. during an aggression or force
  5. Fear of missing the time of wuquf in Arafah
  6. To save things that are glorified by the Shari’ah from being damaged and destroyed

If there is no need to delay the prayer, then it is more important based on the generality of the words of the Prophet to Abu Zar: What will you do if you are with the people who miss the prayer from its time? Then Abu Zar said: What did you command (O Messenger of Allah)? The Messenger of Allah replied: Pray at the right time. – [HR Muslim 648].

.

Therefore, strive to obey God’s command and do not ever abuse the practice of prayer and be patient in doing so.

Allah’s words in Surah Taha verse 132: And command your family and your people to perform the prayer and be patient in performing it.

The head of the family has a heavy burden on his shoulder to lead his family to abide and commitment in prayers.

Question: My workload is tight, is it permissible to delay prayer beyond its time?

I must leave for work early in the morning to catch the first bus to work. However, I missed my prayers and reach the office at 7:30 am. I do my Fajar prayer. Since I will be busy and will be free at 8 pm, I pray zohor, asar and magrib together. Is it permissible to pray after work is over?
