Ahmad sat quietly on the edge of a worn wooden bench inside the mosque, his fingers slowly tracing the familiar patterns of his prayer mat. The lingering scent of sandalwood and incense carried the calm of earlier prayers, wrapping the space in serenity.

Though Ahmad had grown up within these walls, something felt different today. A quiet restlessness stirred in his heart. Questions he had long ignored now pressed heavily on his mind, seeking answers he could no longer postpone.

Across the prayer hall, the imam sat in silent reflection—an elderly man with kind eyes and a calm presence shaped by years of devotion. Gathering his courage, Ahmad approached him. The imam looked up and smiled warmly.

“Ah, Ahmad, my young friend,” he said gently. “What brings you here at this hour?”

“Imam, may I ask you something?” Ahmad asked, his voice soft but sincere.

“Of course,” the imam replied, motioning for him to sit beside him. “Speak freely.”

After a brief pause, Ahmad shared what weighed on his heart.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about faith. Sometimes I feel lost—like I’m moving through life without direction. How do I know if my faith is strong enough?”

The imam nodded thoughtfully.
“Faith, Ahmad, is not a fixed measure. It rises and falls, like the waves of the sea. What truly matters is the sincerity of your heart and your intention toward Allah. Tell me, what makes you feel lost?”

Ahmad exhaled slowly.
“The world feels overwhelming—school, expectations, people’s opinions. Everything moves so fast. I worry whether I’m making the right choices… whether I’m even on the right path.”

The imam stroked his beard gently.
“You are not alone in this struggle. Doubt and confusion visit many hearts. Faith is not a destination we arrive at once; it is a lifelong journey. Prayer, reflection, and staying connected to the community are anchors that steady us when the winds grow strong.”

Ahmad hesitated before asking,
“But what if I’m not good enough? What if my prayers don’t matter?”

The imam’s voice softened.
“My dear Ahmad, faith is not about perfection—it is about effort. When you pray, you humble yourself before Allah, placing your forehead on the ground, acknowledging His greatness and your need for Him. That humility is powerful.

Some people has a huge ego, boastful because of his success and wealth, but when he is injured in an accident or need surgery, he has no choice but entrust his faith to the surgeons.

His lips nonstop asking for help saying: “Oh My Lord, please help me.” His prayers and supplication answered but when he recovered due to the blessings of his Lord, he forgot the Creator and return to his usual activity of more sins.

He refurl saying that his wealth is because of his intelligence and hard work, at that moment he transgresses against the Lord of the universe.

What matters is that you turn to Him. Allah knows your whispered fears and the struggles you carry within.”

A tear glistened in Ahmad’s eye as he listened.

“But how can I make my faith stronger?” he asked, determination growing in his voice.

“Begin with small, sincere steps,” the imam replied with a smile.
“Pray consistently, even if briefly. Read the Qur’an with reflection, not haste. Keep company with those who remind you of Allah. Remember, even the greatest scholars faced hardship and doubt. Your struggles, if met with patience, can become sources of strength.”

A quiet warmth settled in Ahmad’s chest.
“Thank you, Imam. I think I just needed to know that I’m not alone.”

“You never are,” the imam said kindly.
“Faith grows within community. Share your concerns, seek advice, and support others as well. Together, we uplift one another.”

As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in soft gold and violet, Ahmad felt a clarity he had not known before. He realized that faith was more than belief—it was connection, guidance, and the courage to seek truth.

“Are you ready to deepen your journey?” the imam asked, rising from his seat.

“Yes,” Ahmad replied with conviction. “I want to learn. I want to grow.”

“Then walk this path with sincerity,” the imam said.
“Seek knowledge, ask questions, and trust in Allah. Always remember—the importance of faith lies not only in what you believe, but in how you live, act, and connect with others.”

As the final light faded from the mosque, Ahmad felt renewed purpose fill his heart. With faith as his compass and guidance as his light, he knew he could face the challenges ahead. In turning toward Allah, he would find strength—and in faith, he would find his way.

Why are faith and guidance fundamental pillars in Islam?

Faith (iman) anchors the heart to Allah, while guidance (hidayah) directs one’s actions and choices. Together, they shape a life of purpose, patience, and moral clarity—leading the believer through uncertainty toward peace in this world and success in the Hereafter. Without witnessing the oath of faith then deeds rejected. It is like when you start your employment, you need to sign an agreement to follow the framework. The declaration of faith to revert to Islam is an oath to witness the existence of the true God (Allah) and follow His rules and faith in the prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him)
